Description:

SCALE MODEL OF THE FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT GOETSCH-WINCKLER HOUSE
American, late 20th century. The extremely detailed 1/12 scale model of the 1939 Wright-designed Usonian residence in Okemos, Michigan is considered to be one of Wright's most elegant creations. Built for Alma Goetsch and Katherine Winckler at 2410 Hulett Rd. and completed by Wright in 1940. This model example, commissioned by a member of the Frank Lloyd Wright conservancy group, was created in 1993 by renowned diminutive architect George Drexler, capturing precise detailed creations including authentic materials such as the Redwood siding, brick, cement, and glass, as well as a sculpted landscape and interior objects. Acclaimed by Miniature Collector Magazine in the September/October 2001 issue for historical accuracy and functioning electricity, the scale model has been housed in the college since.

Provenance: MacMurray College; Albert & Vera Maxine Ratcliffe collection 20"h. 38"w. 90"l.

    Condition:
  • Items of note are that there are FIVE separate and removable roofs on this model for 'aerial' viewing into the home.
There is one damaged area and you can clearly see that damage in the very last photograph on our website - you'll see the BLUE TAPE a bit more than half way down the left side in that image - the tape is holding some of the bricks in place, with a bit of a loss there just to the right of the blue tape - that looks to be a chimney of sorts. That is the only issue we've come up with.
We have the CUSTOM Crate that measures 33"h. x 100.5"l. x 46.5"d. The handles you see are for carrying the model and easily handled by two people. The model slides into the lower portion of the crate, then a 'fitted' cardboard cover goes over the model that holds the 5 bubble wrapped rooftops within the foam bound fitted slots, with instructions by whoever crated it for packing and unpacking. Once the model is in place, there are custom cut brackets and a few braces made of 2x4 boards that take screws that are put in through the outside of the crate. Then you mount the full front board of the crate, then you mount the top.
